You want your website to be like Rihanna and shine bright like a diamond on the internet stage. But omg, Search Engine Optimisation is like a different language. If you speak to a specialist, chances are you’ll be drowned in a sea of organic keyword execution and backlink black holes. I won’t lie to you - if you want to rank well on Google for your preferred search terms, it really is best to engage an SEO specialist. I recommend all of my clients to invest in SEO packages with my go-to guru. It’s one of those things that involves time and effort and a partnership with your specialist. If you’re ready to jump in, hit me up and I’ll sort you out with my trusted SEO partner.

But if you’re still early in your business set up and have a bit of time to DIY, you can certainly do a few things to improve your site’s SEO without too much effort. Every little bit counts! I’ve put together a list of action items that will most definitely ‘move the needle’ of SEO in the right direction, so you have DIY SEO tips at your fingers. There are a few things that Google likes, I’ll break them down for you:

1. Blog it like it’s hot

It's time to give your website a fresh coat of awesome with a blog. I mean, you’re readying one right now, so chances are you found this on Google! If there is one thing Google likes, it’s fresh content that your users will actually want to read! It's not just about showing off your brainpower – it's SEO magic in disguise. Write engaging content that speaks to your perfect client. Give them some really useful info that you know they’ll search for on Google. Share tips, stories, and sprinkle in your signature humour. Google eats this stuff up! Not only will this blog appear when someone searches for the keywords inside, it will drive the readers back to your website services, make sure you add in lots of ‘get in touch to find out more’ type calls to action.

2. Sprinkle those keywords

Sprinkle those juicy keywords throughout your site like confetti. Imagine what your ideal client might type into the search bar. Weave those words naturally into your content. No robotic vibes allowed! Try and integrate them in a way that doesn’t look so SEO-ey, ain’t nobody gonna read sentences like 'lawn care services Australia’ and think ‘wow - I’m engaged!’. Maybe something like ‘we hook our clients up with the best lawn care services Australia wide!’. Don’t try and hide these keywords at the bottom of your page, if Google finds out there’ll be a black mark against your name and you’ll be in the dogbox of SEO.

3. Make ‘Google My Business’ your friend

Create a Google My Business profile and let 'em know you're the real deal. Now this one is a bit of a doozy - GMB is run by employees who determine whether or not your business is legit. So if you don’t get approved first go, talk to them like human beings and appeal nicely! Manners get you far in the human world (I know from experience dealing with the GMB management team!

Once approved, link your business on Google Maps to show you’re a real live business, and make sure to add your website. Google will link all of these and serve them in various ways to people who search for you. Share your deets – location, hours, and toss in some snazzy visuals. You can also capitalise on keywords here - add some that you know your ideal client is going to be searching. Boom, you're easier to spot than a lighthouse at midnight!

4. Get them slugs right

URL slugs? They’re way less disgusting than the ones in your garden. They're like the name tags at a party – gotta be accurate and match exactly what you’re talking about on the page and what you think your audience will search for.

Forget "blahblah.com/page123." Go for "blahblah.com/OT-services" instead. Google loves clarity, just like your clients love clear, jargon-free communication. Make them match what’s on the page and Google will know you’re not lying about your content!

5. Image Tinification Party

Pictures are like the life of your website party. But heavy images can be a buzzkill. Enter tinification – compress those pics without sacrificing quality. Use https://tinypng.com/ to compress your images in batches. Now you’re teeny tiny, your site will load faster than a sneeze, and Google will shower you with love.

I use TinyPNG to compress images for my client’s websites. It’s fast, does batches of images at a time and doesn’t compromise on the quality of the image.

There you have it – five solid gold tips to supercharge your website's SEO that you can 100% do yourself. Get out there and sprinkle that digital fairy dust! Keep content your Queen, keep it you, and watch your website soar higher than a caffeine-fueled seagull. You've got this, small business superstar!
